Various local conferences have been held by all of the Support Group’s regional chapters to reach different groups of affected individuals. Board members and the Secretary General of the Support Group participate in gatherings in all regional chapters throughout the year.
Confrences for the national board and regional chapters are held twice a year, and is organized by the national board. The purpose is to discuss issues raised by both the national board and the regional chapters. These conferences also serve to invite speakers who provide information on research, work on the permanent memorial in the Government Quarter, the activities of the July 22 Center, and other relevant and prioritized topics.
The Support Group organizes annual nationwide conferences. Every other year, conferences are held in rotation for survivors, the bereaved, and siblings who are both bereaved and siblings of survivors. These conferences are organized in close collaboration with professionals from RVTS.
The National Support Group collaborates closely with
Utøya AS. The Support Group is highly involved with preserving Utøya as a place of memory, learning, and resilience. It is crucial to tell the stories to future generations so that we never forget those who were brutally deprived of life, those who were forever changed, and the ideology behind the horrific actions.

July 22 Center is important for the Support Group. The origin of the
July 22 Center came from an initiative by AUF and the Support Group after July 22. The Support Group is closely involved in the entire process of developing what will become a permanent center in the new Government Quarter. Monthly collaboration meetings and regular site inspections are held to follow the construction process. Preserving visible traces is an important part of the work, along with designing the timeline and other parts of the future
July 22 Center. Support Group members participate in witness conversations organized by the center, related to the extensive educational activities the center undertakes as a part of its mission.
The Support Group has developed a collaboration with the
Rafto Foundation in Bergen, related to education for primary and secondary school students in the Bergen area. Members of the Support Group’s regional chapters tell their stories as a part of an educational program developed in collaboration between the
Rafto Foundation, the July 22 Center, and the Support Group. This collaboration is being expanded to reach more students who learn about July 22, 2011, as part of their education during primary school. Teaching about this event is included in the approved national curriculum. The Support Group’s regional chapters in Nordvest and Rogaland are now also involved in this collaboration.
The Rafto Foundation is also one of seven regional peace and human rights centers in Norway.
rafto.no/var-undervisning The Support Group also works closely with the Wergeland Center. Successful teacher training courses have been organized for affected teachers. These teachers share the common challenge of handling the dual role of being affected and being responsible for teaching. This can be a challenging position to manage. Recognizing this challenge, we will continue and further develop the collaboration with the European Wergeland Center to organize training courses for affected teachers.
